A Hiring Manager’s Perspective on Landing that Software Engineering Job
Details
Paul Elliot will be presenting on how to get that Software Engineering job from the Hiring Managers perspective.
Landing a software engineering job in this market is incredibly difficult. If you’re looking, it probably feels like you’re sending out dozens or hundreds of applications and getting nowhere. Well you are not alone in that but I think you may be surprised to learn that, as a hiring manager, I am just as frustrated as you about the difficulty of finding the right hire.In this talk I’m going to share my opinions on the trends I’m seeing in the overall hiring market as well as what I’m seeing in the application pipelines for the roles we’ve recently hired for. I’ll talk through why we dismiss some applications, why some get an interview, and why we ultimately say “yes” or “no” to a candidate at the end of the process.I’ll also do some live resume and application review in front of the group. If you’re actively looking and want to get some feedback on your resume, cover letter, or applications you’ve submitted, please come with them ready to share and we’ll discuss what’s good and what you can improve on. It may sound scary to put yourself out there like that, but I’ve done it many times at other talks and the volunteers are always glad they did it.You should walk away from this session with some actionable tips on how to improve your application response rate.
