What we’re about

Welcome to The Jacksonville Nones Meetup Group!

Is your worldview formed by fact, truth and science? Are your beliefs based on empirical knowledge rather than faith? Are you disillusioned that many religious organizations have become more focused on social issues than on worship? Do you question or reject the need for organized religion in your life?

If so, you’ve found your people!

The term “Nones” was coined by Pew Research in its recent landmark study showing that 29% of U.S. adults identified as “religiously unaffiliated”. This cohort, and our members, include a wide array of perspectives. We may identify as Rationalists, Skeptics, Humanists, Agnostics, Spiritual but Not Religious, Atheists, Secularists or Freethinkers... or simply as thoughtful, curious questioners of religion’s role and impact on our lives and our society.

However each of us identifies, our members are united in the belief that reason, science and truth are the pillars of any society which supports equality, acceptance and free thought. We strongly support the separation of church and state, and reject any religious tenets that target or denigrate a specific gender, demographic, race or sexual orientation. We affirm our social responsibility to live meaningful, authentic and ethical lives without need for religious direction.

Our mission is to support the needs of Jackonville’s secular population by providing a welcoming, fun, thought-proving and safe community to connect and socialize with kindred others. It’s not easy to find like-minded local friends ‘in the wild’ these days!

We hope you’ll join us, and we look forward to meeting you soon! Watch our Meetup homepage for upcoming events, and feel free to reach out to our leadership team with any questions.
