THE LONG AND THE SHORT OF IT: Writing Novels and Picture Books for Young Readers. Award-winning author Shutta Crum will lead a discussion on concepts and considerations when writing fiction. Although geared toward writing for young readers much of what will be discussed (narrator, voice, music, pacing, plotting) is important for any writer of fiction for any audience. Includes an extensive handout.
Shutta Crum is a Robinson Jeffers Tor House honoree (2024) who is the author of three middle-grade novels, fifteen picture books, and three poetry chapbooks for adults. All traditionally published. Her books have made Bank Street College lists as well as state award lists and have been reviewed in the NY Times. She has won 11 Royal Palm Literary Awards. www.shutta.com
