She’Koyokh @ Lauderdale House
Details
She’Koyokh are a virtuoso, versatile and prize-winning band playing klezmer and traditional music from Eastern Europe, the Balkans and beyond. Their name is a Yiddish word meaning 'nice one!' and they’ve been hailed as “one of the finest and most entertaining British-based exponents of global music” (The Guardian). A live force to be reckoned with, they’re a wild swirl of violin, accordion and dance-inducing bass and percussion.
They were awarded first prize in the 2008 International Jewish Music Festival in Amsterdam and have been shortlisted twice for Best Group in the Songlines World Music Awards. They have received 5-star reviews for their albums from Songlines, fROOTS, the Evening Standard and The Guardian and performed in venues from the Concertgebouw and the Queen Elizabeth Hall to Glastonbury and WOMAD festivals. She’Koyokh are regulars to BBC Radio 3 and in 2019 composed and performed a prelude to Mahler’s 1st Symphony with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
She’Koyokh will perform outdoor as a quartet (no matter what the weather!) at Lauderdale House, a Tudor building in Waterlow Park, Highgate.
**Stuart, Stephen and four others will be sat around a picnic table seating six. Other tickets may be available from Lauderdale House at https://www.lauderdalehouse.org.uk/whats-on/SheKoyokh-2023**
We can meet 30 minutes before the gig starts - for a drink (soft or alcoholic as you wish) and if it's not too late afterwards, stay for another drink and gig post-mortem.
There is a bar on site selling drinks and snacks but we are welcome to bring our own picnics. We hope it will be a lovely balmy summer evening.
If this is your first Meetup group, please don't worry. We’ll try to make you feel welcome and introduce you to other members of the group as soon as you arrive 🙂
