JH Monthly Meeting: How Unilateralism is Eroding America’s Global Power

Details
Jefferson Humanists hosts Jack Donnelly at our April monthly meeting. He will talk about unilateralism and sovereignty and the current state of affairs in the world.
The news is full of stories about the United States reduced NATO support, withdrawal from the World Health Organization, financial impact of tariffs, President Trump’s interest in Canada, Greenland and Panama Canal, just to name a few. Our April meeting speaker, Professor Jack Donnelly, will share his views on how all of this turmoil may impact our lives.

Jack Donnelly is the Andrew Mellon Professor in the Korbel School of International Studies and Distinguished University Professor at the University of Denver. For much of his career he worked principally on international human rights. (His book Universal Human Rights in Theory and Practice is one of the most cited works in the field.) Over the past two decades, though, he has focused more on international relations theory. His most recent book is Systems, Relations, and the Structures of International Societies (Cambridge University Press, 2024).Come prepared for a lively discussion on important questions for this juncture in US history. What is sovereignty (and why does it matter)? Is American sovereignty eroding and under attack? How much of the MAGA program is really about sovereignty? How will American unilateralism impact American sovereignty and American power?
Arrive at 4:00 to meet the speaker and share refreshments. The program begins at 4:30.
Jefferson Unitarian Church, 14350 W 32nd Ave, Golden, CO.
This program is hosted by Jefferson Humanists, a chapter of the American Humanist Association.
