JH Monthly Meeting: Where We've Been & Where We're Headed

Details
Jefferson Humanists hosts Dr. Jeff Oster for his talk, Religious Freedom - Where We've Been and Where We're Headed.
Religious freedom is a unique aspect of democracy that allows each of us to practice our chosen religion, safely and free in conscience. Religious freedom also protects those of us who choose to not participate in organized religion. But the new definition of religious freedom is rapidly changing into a court-protected right to express your religious beliefs publicly, in your work, your school or in your community government. With the help of The Supreme Court, religious freedom is taking on new meaning. Rather than a personal right to practice as you choose, religious freedom is being used by a minority to gain privilege and to assert dominion over each of us in government, media and in our local governments.
Dr. Jeff Oster retired from San Luis Region Medical Center in Alamosa, Colorado in 2023 after practicing lower extremity surgery for 42 years. He is a husband, dad and grandpa (they call me Yoyo) to 5, soon to be 6 grandchildren. He is a vintner, sculptor and gardener. Dr. Oster is Chair of The Religious Freedom Task Force of The Colorado League of Women Voters.
