Monthly Meeting - The Alignment of Humanism and Buddhism
Details
Join Dr. Lisa Pettit for her talk, “The Alignment of Humanism and Buddhism.”
Buddhism is often (mis)understood to be a religion, and because cultural influences in some forms of Buddhism add devotional components to the practice, there can be a tendency for atheists and secularists to be unaware of the alignment between Buddhism and other philosophical and psychological viewpoints, such as Humanism. We will examine ways Humanism and Buddhism are aligned and discuss together how each can enrich the other. How we respond to current social issues using Humanist and Buddhist lenses will also be considered.
