Join Jefferson Humanists for our monthly program where we will enjoy End-of-Life Doula, Vanessa Johnston's presentation, What to Do with your Body when You Die: A Humanist Perspective.

Colorado is a national leader in new, legal options around final disposition. Local death doula Vanessa Johnston will give an overview of all the choices currently available in our state. These include traditional burial and flame cremation, as well as more eco-friendly methods like Green Burial, Alkaline Hydrolysis (water cremation), and Natural Organic Reduction (composting). Learn more in order to better align your end-of-life choices with your values. Q & A to follow.

About our Speaker
Vanessa Johnston has been an End-of-Life Doula in the Denver metro area since 2017. She completed training with INELDA (International End-of-Life Doula Association) and is a co-founder and member of the Colorado End-of-Life Collaborative nonprofit organization. She is on the Advisory Council for End-of-Life Options Colorado and participates in a national Medical Aid in Dying doula group associated with the Academy of Aid-in-Dying Medicine. She is active with NEDA (National End-of-Life Doula Alliance), as well as Compassion & Choices.

As a Death Doula, Vanessa offers individualized emotional, spiritual, and informational support for those who may be experiencing palliative or hospice care and their loved ones. Her passion is to help those who are dying approach their final milestone with love and meaning instead of fear and anxiety. She seeks to be a compassionate companion and serve as a witness in sacred service to honor the final chapter in others' stories. She specializes in life review and vigil planning, as well as MAID and VSED assistance. She is a death educator and shares her knowledge about sustainable death care practices such as green burial, alkaline hydrolysis, and natural organic reduction. She is dedicated to empowerment around all end-of-life choices. More information can be found at https://www.denvereoldoula.com/ and she can be contacted at EOLDoulaDenver@gmail.com.

This program is hosted by Jefferson Humanists, a chapter of the American Humanist Association.
