In April, we invite you to read two short stories: Scout by Will McIntosh and Five Impossible Things by Koji Dae.

Scout (9 pages)
Kai is a fourteen-year-old boy, a refugee from Richmond which had been taken by invading aliens called the Luyten. The Luyten are winning helped by their ability to read minds. Finding shelter, Kai is contacted, in his mind, by a Luyten who had crashed, not a soldier but a scout. Should Kai help "Scout"?

Five Impossible Things (16 pages)
Alice lies dying in a hospice bed while her mind attempts to gain citizenship in Vtora Sviat, a virtual reality realm designed as an alternative to dying. The challenge is that the mind must accept the VR as reality. But Alice struggles to do this each time she visits by noticing the impossible things in the virtual world. With time running out, she must overcome this mental obstacle or face imminent death.
Please read these stories on your own and come
to the meeting on April 30th to share your thoughts.

Those who RSVP will be sent a copy of Scout. You can find a copy of Five Impossible Things online at https://clarkesworldmagazine.com/dae_09_25/

RSVP to this Meetup or email SciFi@jeffersonhumanists.org. Only those who RSVP will receive the Zoom link for the discussion.
