Details

What it's about

We are doing a similar summit to that of last year's Jenkins Scalability Summit (https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Jenkins+Scalability+Summit+2013), but on a different topic --- workflow.

The event is held the day after JUC Bay Area (https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Jenkins+User+Conference+US+West+%28San+Francisco%29+Agenda) in Netflix Los Gatos office.

The idea is to gather people who are interested in the area of pipelines, workflows, orchestration, continuous delivery, etc. The number of those people should be small, so that we can have a lot of interaction, instead of being in a listen-only mode.

Jesse and Kohsuke would like to share the workflow plugin (https://github.com/jenkinsci/workflow-plugin) that we've been working on. The goal for us is to better understand the prominent issues users are facing or not facing, see if our current solution is on the right track to address them, and adjust features, designs, and roadmaps accordingly.

We'd like to also hear from attendees to share stories, use cases, and where their struggles & pain points are, and what they've tried.

In the afternoon, we'll switch to the unconference format. Based on what we learned in the morning, participants will identify the topics to spend time on, and we'll split in two tracks to talk about them. Depending on how much stories people will bring, we should be able to run 2 or 3 topics in each track. People are encouraged to switch the track any time.

Who is this for?

This event is intended for the existing serious users of Jenkins, who are interested in the area of pipelines, workflows, orchestration, and continuous delivery. You need to be participating, not just listening.

Speakers wanted

As discussed above, we are looking for people who are willing to share their experience, success, and struggles. It can be long or short, you can use slides or draw on whiteboard. This would be a great opporunity to influence the direction of the project.

If you are interested in doing this, please say so in the comment section.

Target Deliverables

During the course of the day, attendees will collectively take a note in a Google document to capture the thoughts and the conversation.

At the end of the day, we'd like to identify a series of issues/RFEs against the current workflow effort (or beyond.)

The result will be shared with the broader Jenkins community at large, so that they can look into it and provide their feedback.
