Roundtable: Remedying Issues Faced by Women in Tech - JSWT #21

Join us for a Roundtable conversation discussing "Remedying Issues Faced by Women in Tech".

We've heard the stats:

• In 1985, there was more than double the percentage of women who received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (37% vs 18% in 2015).
• Women are twice as likely to quit their jobs in the high tech industry.
• Hispanic and Black and African American women are the most under-represented groups in tech occupations.
• Women make up less than 20% of U.S. tech jobs, even though they make up more than half of the U.S. workforce. This is despite the fact that there were 627,000 unfilled positions in tech in April 2017.
• 12% of engineers at Silicon Valley startups are women. Only 11% of executive positions at Silicon Valley companies are held by women.
• Only 5% of leadership positions in the tech sector are held by women.
• Women in STEM make $16,000 less on average than their male counterparts

In this brainstorming session, we'll invite all participants to help dissect the problem by identifying some of the factors that are contributing to the gender imbalance and discuss how these affect individuals and companies.

The goal of this event is to walk away with actionable steps we can all take to help remedy the issue.
