The meeting will deal with constructing a robust life science IP portfolio, as well as strategies used by startups to build a moat around your business & technology in order to maximize your competitive advantage. Topics will include cost-effective IP strategies for early-stage startups in the life sciences. What is needed in terms of IP protection, which will satisfy investors without creating financial or time commitments and can be expanded to a robust life science IP portfolio, that maximizes a company’s competitive advantage, when the funding becomes available.
Topics that can be broached are:
- Dealing effectively with the university or hospital TTOs,
- What investors desire in the IP portfolio,
- When and where to patent,
- Dealing with patents of other parties could be problematic,
- How patents can be money-makers in the short term,
- When publishing means perishing, …
Presentations will be in English.
The meeting will have both before and after the formal part, networking that JLM-BioCity is famous for. We will work to make introductions so that every participant will go away with at least 5 good leads! JLM-BioCity hopes to make up for the 2 years where networking was not possible.

Bat Ami Gotliv,
Director of Intellectual Property at Lapidot, Melchior, Abramovich & Co. Law Offices
Patent attorney and expert in IP strategy. Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Weizmann Institute of Science followed by a postdoctoral research fellowship in the Medical School of Northwestern University in Chicago, IL, USA. Bat Ami is a certified Israeli patent attorney with 10 years of experience in Teva pharmaceutical. As IP strategy design and IP manager, at Lapidot, Melchior, Abramovich & Co. Law Offices, Bat Ami supports Landa Ventures portfolio companies and design the IP strategy for innovative start-ups in a diverse array of technological fields.
Tamar Raz, PhD
CEO, Hadassit
Dr. Tamar Raz has nearly two decades of experience in technology transfer and an impressive track record of bringing medical innovations from the lab to the marketplace. Prior to joining Hadasit, she served as VP of Marketing and Strategy at Ramot, the technology transfer company of Tel Aviv University. Tamar was the founder and CEO of Allergene Ltd, an Israeli drug development start-up company. MSc and Ph.D. in cell biology from the Tel Aviv University School of Medicine.
Yoram Drucker
An Israeli entrepreneur, previously involved in the development of two successful cell therapy technology firms, Brainstorm (NASDAQ:BCLI) and Pluristem (NASDAQ:PSTI). Yoram is the Founder of InnoCan Pharma CEO & Co-founder of the biotech company, ViruCure. Prior to founding ViruCure, Yoram served as both the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman of Cell Source Ltd (CLCS.OB) until 2015. Founding member of Brainstorm (NASDAQ: BCLI), where he served as COO in 2004 and CEO from 2005 to 2007. Co-founder of Pluristem (NASDAQ:PSTI) and was a Director in 2004 and 2005. He has also worked as an Executive in the diamond industry and was a successful marketing strategy and Corporate Finance Consultant. An honors graduate of the Abudi College of Advertising and Marketing.
