The growth of the food sector in Israel has exploded according to Foodhack in Israel’s 50+ FoodTech Unicorns, Soonicorns, and Futurecorns - [[https://foodhack.global/articles/israels-food tech-soonicorns]. And it is likely to be accelerated by SynBio!

The domain of SynBio is a discipline that gathers different fields of life sciences, engineering, and information science to rewire biological circuitry to achieve cellular control and redesign biological systems to reprogram organisms to become engineered cell factories to produce nutrition. SynBio is transforming the food industry! A string of startups have emerged in Israel such as Future Meat, Pluristem, Redefine Meat, SavorEat, MAOLAC, Aleph Farms, and more, that create food products from animal cells using technology that is more sustainable, healthy, and economic than natural methods. And many more are expected to emerge in this rapidly growing field. The SynBio-driven food industry has the potential to address the challenges of sustainable food supply.

The upcoming meeting will address issues on how SynBio is innovative food technology that we will find on our plates in the near
future. The application of SynBio to food tech is possibly the fastest-growing field in Life Sciences. Most life science graduates can be expected to be hired in this nascent field JLM-BioCity has invited some of the leading experts in the field to discuss what the trends are in this field.

Presentations will be in English.

The meeting will have both before and after the formal part, networking that JLM-BioCity is famous for. We will work to make introductions so that every participant will go away with at least 5 good leads!

The event is organized by JLM-BioCity and co-sponsored by the Azrieli College of Engineering and Atobe.

More on the Speakers:

Served as CTO of Zero-Egg; Director of Food Science, Amai-proteins. Was regarded as the "Google" of FoodTech; and CSO of Avomed. Received her Ph.D. Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Food Science from the Hebrew University.

A seasoned banking & finance professional, Levana sits on the board of directors of multiple companies and organizations including HUB Security, along with NGOs Green Course and Keren Shemesh. Levana also serves as executive director at MAF -, which promotes innovation and entrepreneurship within alternative protein FoodTech. A volunteer mentor for CEOs and women launching businesses, Levana holds a master's degree in law and a bachelor's degree in business management.

An industrial professional who can successfully bring an innovative idea to a doable technology or finished product. She has more than 15 years of experience in managing global R&D in functional food and dietary supplements as well as pharmaceuticals. Dorit holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Weizmann Institute.
