Making Sustainable Impact in Africa through Robotics

Details

Robotics is a fascinating discipline that is shaping our lives in the 21st century, with applications across domestic support, transportation, art, space exploration, and many areas of human endeavour. It has been identified as one of the most effective ways of helping young people to improve their knowledge and skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Robotics integrates knowledge from different fields including design, physics, mathematics, and programming. It emphasises a problem solving ethic and facilitates development of competencies such as critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity.

JOGL Africa’s March 2022 community event, in partnership with the Pan-African Robotics Competition (PARC), will explore how robotics can be leveraged to drive sustainable impact in Africa. PARC is one of the initiatives working to increase access to robotics among young people in Africa. The event will be an opportunity to learn about how the competition is shaping STEM Education and problem-solving culture on the continent.

The programme will include presentations from PARC and some of its previous participating teams, closing with a question-and-answer session. The discussion is targeted at the JOGL Africa Community, students, teachers, and problem-solvers interested in robotics. Check out our previous events on YouTube.
