About us

Joseph Beuys Cafe, part of the ‘Permanent Conference’, presents changing exhibitions of work by internationally acclaimed German artist Joseph Beuys.

WE OFFER A READING GROUP

Join the group on Tuesdays 10-12noon or Wednesdays 6-8pm where you will discover that our inner world has much to offer.

The spiritual lives at the heart of the work of Joseph Beuys. In October 1971 he wrote a letter in which he said that he was given a task by Rudolf Steiner to “…remove mankind’s separation and mistrust of the spiritual”.

We are reading Rudolf Steiner's book “How To Know Higher Worlds” which was read by Joseph Beuys who held approximately 100 of Steiner’s books in his library.
This book contains exercises to develop what Beuys called “new organs of perception”, an evolutionarily/revolutionary step necessary in this material age.

EVENT LOCATION: Room 13, Level 3, Nicholas Building, 37 Swanston Street Melbourne
Beuys's library held 96 books by European social reformer, and esotericist, Rudolf Steiner.
Joseph Beuys approached the "spiritual exercises" of Steiner as a way to awaken human consciousness, heal society, and bridge the gap between material existence and spiritual reality. For Beuys, art was a "spiritual substance" that he called "social sculpture" and felt that everyone should participate in a “permanent conference” to help shape a more human, free, and creative society.
Join like-minded individuals to explore the ideas and exercises of Beuys and Steiner. Just bring yourself and an open mind.
There will be a short introductory talk from Ian George
