Making maps and using geographical data with R

Details
This month we'll be learning how to make maps and work with geographic data using the R programming language.
R is used by teams in many newsrooms, and is known for its data analysis and chart-making capabilities. But it also has increasingly powerful tools for working with geographic data that allow you produce rich, complex maps with surprisingly few lines of code.
In this session we'll be following a tutorial taking us through how to use some popular packages to produce different types of maps in R, including all the geographic data processing needed to make them work. We'll initially focus on static maps, then look at how to move into producing animated and interactive maps.
All of our events are suitable for beginners, and no programming experience is required. Bring a laptop along as this a practical, hands-on workshop. Please also sign up for a Dropbox account if you don't already have one so you can edit the shared doc we'll be using during the event.
