Warriors of the ์ฐ์ค์ฅ (outdoor gym workout in Seoul)!
Nakseongdae Station, Gwanak-gu, Nakseongdae Station, Seoul, KRHave you ever wondered who is training in the many outdoor gyms (์ฐ์ค์ฅ) you find in parks and along hiking trails? Is it ์์ค๋ง (ajummas) and ์์ ์จ (ajoessis) trading the latest neighbourhood gossip while stretching and staying fit? Well, mostly, but now, we join the party.
DATE AND TIME: every Wednesday at 7:30pm
WHO IS THIS MEETUP FOR: You! It does not matter if you have just done a Hyrox, PRโd your Boston Marathon time or see joining this meetup as an opportunity to get off that comfy couch or out of the old, creaking office chair. People of all ages and fitness levels are welcome. This meetup is designed as an inclusive workout space, in which we support each other to get or stay healthy, but mostly to connect and enjoy our shared time outdoors.
EVENT DETAILS:
We'll start with a 5-10 minute group warm-up to prepare our bodies for the workout ahead. The main session features circuit interval training, where participants rotate through multiple workout stations using timed intervals (such as 40 seconds of work followed by 20 seconds of rest). Each station focuses on functional movements and we will make sure to hit all the big muscle groups to give you a complete, full-body workout. There are different intensity levels available for every exercise. This means we can all work out together as a group while each person chooses the level that works best for them. We will end the workout together with a little challenge and a cool-down.The meetup is free.
HOW WE TRAIN:
We leave our ego at the door and embrace community. We train together and support each other. There is a zero-tolerance policy for body-shaming or any kind of derogatory comment(s).Please note: We are not the only people using the ์ฐ์ค์ฅ, but share this community space with others. This means you are safe from the hostโs doubtful workout playlists, but also that access to specific equipment at the ์ฐ์ค์ฅ cannot be guaranteed. Thus, we will focus on bodyweight exercises and minimal use of equipment.
EVENT SCHEDULE
7:30 PM โ Meet at Nakseongdae station, Exit 5 (๋์ฑ๋์ญ 5๋ฒ ์ถ๊ตฌ)
โฐ Please be on time. We will wait five minutes, but then depart on our walk towards the ์ฐ์ค์ฅ. Please note that the walk up to the ์ฐ์ค์ฅ involves a steep uphill path, including a number of stairs. So, we already get the body going and are rewarded with a beautiful view of the city. If you miss the group at the subway station, you can find the ์ฐ์ค์ฅ here (from this spot on Naver Maps take the stairs up and follow the hiking trail).7:50 PM - Start of the workout
8:45PM - End of the workout and meetup (optional: walking back to the station together, sharing dinner)
Please note: We are not the only people using the ์ฐ์ค์ฅ, but share this community space with others. - A fresh shirt to change into after training (Please note that there are no showers at the ์ฐ์ค์ฅ, but there are toilets nearby that you can use for changing.)
MEET THE HOST:
The meetup is run by Alice who has given group training classes in Sweden for five years. She loves functional exercise and believes that everything is scalable to meet participants where they are. When she is not in a ์ฐ์ค์ฅ, she enjoys lifting a heavy barbellโto clear her mind and feel a little stronger within and outside the gym.Please note: This event is dependent on the weather. If heavy rain or storms occur, the event may be cancelled. In this case, the host will inform you on the Meetup event page as well as in the Kakaotalk Chatroom.
