Enjoy a Walk in the Beautiful Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens

Details

Meet just after at 8.00am at the entrance for a prompt 8.15am start (parking only opens at 8.00am). Cost to enter is R80. We will walk about 4.5kms, on a trail in the garden as well as walking up the Kloof, including some steep/steps and rocky parts. Good fitness is required for this walk as it is strenuous in parts. Gillian will be your host.

Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden and nature reserve is home to an abundance of wildlife with about 240 bird species recorded on site. A breeding pair of Verreaux’s Eagles nest on the cliffs near the waterfall. A surprising number of mammal species have been sighted recently, using camera trap technology. The presence of these rather secretive animals is a sign that the ecosystem of the estate remains viable, despite being surrounded by development.

The natural vegetation of the area is a mosaic of three main vegetation types; Egoli Granite Grassland, Gold Reef Mountain Bushveld and Northern Afrotemperate Forest. This variety of habitats accommodates over 600 naturally occurring plant species.

Afterwards we will enjoy a brunch at the Restaurant in the Gardens.
