OpenTelemetry; Preventing burning down the house
The world of application monitoring with (costly) APM tools like Datadog, New Relic and Splunk is at a turning point. OpenTelemetry (OTEL) - the new open standard in the observability space - is rapidly gaining traction and greatly improving operational stability for a fraction of the effort and costs.
We will discuss the many benefits of choosing an OTEL native solution over a traditional APM Tool. We will also discuss why existing APM suppliers are so costly, and why they are reluctant to support the OTEL standard in their solutions.
Lastly, we will explore the many benefits and functionalities that Native OTEL solutions bring us, and how we can use them to greatly improve the stability and performance of our application stacks, and proactively catch issues to avoid burning down our house.
Niek Heezemans - CTO & Lead Architect at Foreside
It is almost impossible to be a good architects without up-to-date coding skills. I am a seasoned technologist that thrives when designing and developing complex, high performant solutions and platforms in large enterprises and organizations. I am an early adopter of promising new technologies and are always on the lookout the maximize the value we can create with them.

Implementing OpenTelemetry in a NestJS Microservices architecture
OpenTelemetry is something of a new buzzword but what is it really? How can we as developers use it to make our jobs a lot easier and make our applications more performant? This talk will dive into the OpenTelemetry ecosystem, show you some of the nitty-gritty implementation details and how they all tie together in a NestJS Microservices architecture.
We'll explore various observability aspects, how to instrument your applications across a distributed architecture, and finally how to setup dashboards and alerts to help you debug issues and stay ahead of downtime.
Rick Dutour Geerling - Lead Software Architect at Trilon (builders of NestJS)
I am a pragmatic and solution driven engineer with plenty of experience developing enterprise solutions. I have a passion for solving complex problems and aim for a deep understanding of the code I am working with. I value direct communication, good leadership and the occasional bad pun.
