How to build a game with less than 13KB of JavaScript

Details

Hello JavaScript developers, gaming fans and code golfing gurus!

We would like to invite you to a coding workshop about the very basics of developing a game with JavaScript. We will focus on the popular Kontra.js gaming micro-library (https://straker.github.io/kontra) , showcase what you can do with it and implement a clone of the popular Asteroids game (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asteroids_(video_game) ).

This workshop is for you, if you are familiar with the syntax and concepts behind JavaScript and want to get an idea of what it means to build a game from the ground up. Additionally, you will get insights into the world of mini JavaScript apps and available libraries.

Meet js13kGames

Js13kGames is a JavaScript coding competition for HTML5 Game Developers. The fun part is the file size limit set to 13 kilobytes. The competition starts on Tuesday (August 13th) and runs for an entire month. The theme for 2021 will be announced on 13th August. You can find out more at https://js13kgames.com.

This session will teach you everything you need to know to participate in the competition!

Host

This session is hosted by Sascha Depold (@sdepold) from our Platinum sponsor eBay (@ebaytechberlin).
