Java User Group for the northern Dutch provinces with a focus on JVM languages such as Java and Kotlin. We'll be hosting events in both Friesland and Groningen.
We're looking forward to host both experienced speakers as well as aspiring new speakers, so if you have anything interesting to share in the JVM field or regarding engineering culture feel free to reach out!
Some of our sessions will be in English 🇬🇧, some in Dutch 🇳🇱. We'll make sure to mark them!

🇬🇧 Things you can do with Spring Boot and Kotlin by Frederik Pietzko (JetBrains)
In this talk, I’ll show you how to build microservices efficiently using Kotlin and Spring Boot. We’ll begin by exploring Kotlin as a drop-in replacement for Java and gradually dive into Kotlin-specific features and libraries that significantly enhance development. We’ll also take a closer look at Kotlin DSLs for Spring Beans, Routing and Security as a sleek alternative to annotation-based configurations, essentially turning Spring Boot into a microframework.
Come and join me on this live coding adventure!
You will leave knowing how to turn any "could I automate this?" moment into a working optimization solution.
🇬🇧 The S in LLM stands for Security by Ties van de Ven (Alliander)
LLMs are all the rage these days and are increasingly being added to more and more products.
At the same time we see companies using GenAI to assist or even replace software engineers.
But as with any new technology this also brings risks that we need to be aware of in order to use it properly.
Since GenAI is still an evolving field, new attacks and vulnerabilities are regularly discovered.
Join this session in which Ties van de Ven explores the most common use cases for LLMs (code assistance/agentic flow, applications built around LLMs, MCP, and model selection) and discusses possible attacks, exploits and mitigations.About the speakers
Frederik is a Developer Advocate at JetBrains, passionate about building the best possible products, and regularly presents at international conferences and writes the occasional blog post.In his free time, he likes to explore programming languages and frameworks, meet and chat with other software enthusiasts, and play with his cats.
Ties is a software engineer with passion for concepts, sofware engineering fundamentals and helping others. He combines these passions by doing public speaking, volenteer work for organisations like Devoxx4kids and codingcoach and working as a Software Quality Expert at Alliander.
