International Women’s Day is an opportunity to focus on equality, and the celebration of women globally. The World Economic Forum predicts the gender gap won’t close entirely until 2186, a time line we work towards drastically shortening through driving greater change for women. The theme for 2017 is #BeBoldForChange, and together Xero and Junior Dev have invited five fantastic speakers who have made bold moves to better their careers. From returning to the corporate world part-time while still pursuing full-time motherhood, to giving up secure careers for the unknown of software development, these five developers share their bold moves.

We invite you to come along for an evening of drinks, nibbles, and inspiring stories where we will celebrate women and encourage everyone to #BeBoldForChange. This event is for women, men, and non-binary people, of all levels and disciplines, to come together and enjoy an evening out. Five speakers will talk about their stories, followed by a panel Q&A with all speakers.

Speakers:

Sharon Chen - Coder Factory Graduate

Until recently, Sharon identified primarily as a clinical pharmacist, health IT consultant and amateur calligrapher. She has now just graduated from a 6 month coding bootcamp at Coder Factory Academy, where she was fortunate to receive a Women in Tech scholarship and is looking forward to giving back to the tech community.

Christie Metson - Junior Developer at REA Group

Christie started out on the tech scene as a Business Analyst, and after a few years helping run web projects, she decided she wanted to be the one building them! Melissa Kaulfuss - Software Engineer at Hooroo

If someone Melissa she’d be working with computers (and even love them) 10 years ago she would have laughed in their face, it’s definitely a love/hate relationship but she’s determined to wear the badge of full stack developer with pride one of these days. Melissa is a Railsgirls alumni, an active member of the Ruby community in Australia and a self taught Junior Software Engineer at Hooroo.
