Now that Daylight Savings is over, I'm scheduling 4:30 AND 6:00 on Tuesdays. Starting n June, if it gets too hot outside to play at 4:30, I might only schedule 6pm.
This is a wonderful group of women, we play for fun and value kindness over competitiveness. We meet at the pickleball courts at Carlin Park, arriving any time between 4-6pm (entrance to the courts is opposite the main beach entrance/the large park sign). This is for women who are either fairly new to pickleball and/or haven't played before, as well as for women who enjoy playing just for fun (vs. competitively). Our group Please wear appropriate shoes and bring water and your own pickleball paddle. If you are brand new, it may help to watch a couple YouTube videos before you come. We can go over the rules and then learn as we have fun playing.
Also,, I'd like to review a court etiquette at Carlin Park:
1. We are a women's only group, but in the event we don't have 4 players, we can advise a male player that he's welcome to join us until more women arrive (that way he won't mistakenly think he'll be playing with us the entire time)
2. If there are 1-2 women who come for open play, they are welcome to join us, but please advise them that we are not competitive, we prefer to play just for fun.
3. Private lessons are NOT allowed when courts are full &/or people are waiting for courts. Essentially, the county does not allow people to use the courts for profit when people are waiting to use them recreationally, as intended. I recommend nicely informing the instructor and trainee of the rules. If they don't offer to immediately vacate the court, put your paddles in the holder to reserve the court and then go call the park ranger to report the issue, the ph # is on the posted rules near each entrance gate to the courts, and they're usually nearby & can be there in a few minutes. **Anyone providing instruction at a county park is required to be permitted by the county and that permit clearly states this rule. I believe all pickleball instructors are well aware of this, but some occasionally feign ignorance.
4. If the courts are full, look for a court that doesn't have anyone else waiting and put your paddles in on the paddle rack in a court to reserve it. Also, if we have more than 4 players to a court, those not playing should put their paddles in the rack to show we are rotating our players, each group of 4 has 1/2 hr for the court, so when we're rotating players we can keep the court provided paddles are in the rack as players have a 1/2hr to play when others are waiting for the court. The other alternative is we can line off one of the back tennis courts, there are marks for us to do that, I have the tape.
