Details
DEPARTURE LOCATION - BUTCHER JONES REC SITE
Great way to learn to kayak-camp for 1 or 2 nights!
•Depart Friday at 9:30 am, BUTCHER JONES REC SITE
Paddle to Bagley Flat to secure spots for group.
Possibly paddle to the dam Friday afternoon or Saturday.
OR
•Depart Saturday at 9:30 am,(leader, Phil S) from BUTCHER JONES.
The Plan:
•Paddle 4 miles, approximately 2 hours, from BUTCHER JONES to Bagley Flat campground. Secure our spots (since it's first come, first serve) and then paddle the afternoon wherever we want on Saguaro Lake.
•Bagley Flat is notable for its boat access only camping on Saguaro Lake. Camping sites with grills, tables and a vault toilet provided. Plenty of space for everyone. This location is fun because of the nice grove of mesquite trees that provide and abundance of shade and birds. Bagley Flat also has a courtesy dock for easy fishing.
There is no cost for camping at Bagley Flat.
•America the Beautiful, Tonto or Discover Pass required on your vehicle while parked. No security patrol after 7pm.

•No alcohol on the water. At camp is fine of course.
•PFD must be worn at all times while on the water.
••For those of you that are new to paddle-in-camping, you'll want to invest in some drybags and practice packing your kayak BEFORE the trip.
There are many YouTube videos out there on how to pack a kayak for camping.
•Arrive with PLENTY of time for you to offload your boat at Butcher Jones, move your vehicle to a parking area and return to boat to pack it with your gear.
We will be departing at 9:30 am SHARP so please come prepared.
•I will also have a list for you to add your name and emergency contact person and their phone number, so come ready to supply that info before departing.
In 2022, it was windy and very cold. Watch the weather and be prepared.
If you're questionable about ability during bad weather, do not attempt this paddle.
