About us
Do you love dancing or always wanted to try?! This is a group for all levels and ages of dancers, from newbies to advanced. The organizers are lovers of West Coast Swing, and we may post about other dances from time to time.
If you think you might like dancing, or know you love it and just need some encouragement to get out, come and join us!
FYI, although the name includes the word "swing", the dance does not involve traditional swing moves where one partner is being thrown into the air, nor is it bouncy like the dances it originated from. Dancers in the Edmonton community range from teens to late seniors and everything in between. It's a lot of fun and you can keep learning more moves for as long as you live!
To see some videos about West Coast Swing, you can go to YouTube (here's a nice one: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=west+coast+swing+dance.
Or check out the video on the Edmonton West Coast Swing Addicts page: http://westcoastswingedmonton.com/ (Scroll down to see it)
You can also join the West Coast Swing Addicts Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/123484727669690.
Cost for the dances is $10.00. That includes a basic lesson and the dance. Bring clean indoor shoes with leather/smooth soles or you can dance in socks if you want/need to. We suggest you bring two pairs of socks if you go that route. We're happy to give you suggestions on what shoes to buy if you want.

Beginner West Coast Swing Lesson: 7:30 PM
Social dancing: 8:30 PM$10 at the door. Debit or credit card accepted.
Important: Different Location for This Dance
Our August 7 dance will be held at Aldergrove Community League Hall, not our usual Bonnie Doon location.8535 182 St NW, Edmonton - View on Google Maps
We’re testing out the hall’s air conditioning, sound system, parking, and overall space during the summer heat, so we’d love to see a strong turnout. New and returning dancers are all welcome!
Who is this for:
- singles
- couples
anyone who wants to learn how to dance (better) and to have a community of people to make it easier and more fun! Many people come alone, and no partner is needed. No previous west coast dance experience is required.
What to expect:
During the lessons, most people rotate partners. This can make it easier even for couples to learn how to dance. One reason is that you will get to dance with people at various levels of experience, including people with more experience than your partner.A big bonus? After dancing with several people in the lesson, you will have met quite a few people. That makes it much easier to get on the dance floor afterward.
How many people will be there:
Our Meetup is only a small number of the total who attend. The dances are quite popular and many nights there are around 100 people who attend over the course of the evening. The most experienced dancers often skip the lesson. We are passionate about helping dancers meet people and become part of the West Coast Swing Addicts dance community! Come and find us around the Meetup tables and we'll introduce you to new friends. This is a very social group where you can comfortably ask anyone to dance. As organizers, our objective is to ease your transition from brand new, to feeling comfortable and having lots of people to dance with!
What to wear:
Note: NO outside shoes are allowed on the dance floor. The best shoes will have a non-stick sole (eg smooth sole, not like running shoes). Don't worry if you don't own dance shoes, but avoid rubber because it can stick when you do the turns. Toms brand shoes work great and are affordable. If you prefer a heel, low heels are best. When you're just trying it out, some simple slip-on flats will be most comfortable.
Most people dress fairly casually. A nice pair of jeans and a buttonup shirt is common for men. Some women will wear a dress or a skirt and most will also wear jeans and a nice shirt.
Type of dancing you can do:
After the lesson, most of the dances will be suitable for West Coast swing. A few songs will be played that are suitable to two-step, and often, we do a line dance, e.g., to Shivers by Ed Sheeran.Cost:
The West Coast Swing Addicts rents the hall and puts on the dances that the Just Dance Meetup group attends. They charge $10.00 for the lesson and the dance. Debit accepted. We don't charge for the work we do organizing this Meetup group.Questions? Feel free to message us; we'll be happy to help you if possible!
