About us

Welcome to the JustCuz Book Club. It’s lit in here! We’re so excited to get started in this space and share our love of books with you!

About us
Your two co-founders are cousins IRL!

Cheyenne is an academic wordsmith and excellent writer, who is currently completing his own speculative fiction series. In addition to his love of reading and writing, he also has the innate ability to go deep in a text through analysis.

Tchad has been a book enthusiast since birth, and a proud supporter of both libraries and independent bookshops. She reads all genres, especially gravitating to biographies/memoirs! She has been the proud member of an array of book clubs and is thrilled to start her own with a fellow bookworm!

We have been building our bond through books for years, and after contemplating starting our own book club for a while, we decided that it’s finally time to translate this dream into a reality!

What’s in a name?

Your co-founders are just cousins, so the name is an abbreviation of that.
Book clubs are a great example of chosen family. There is a certain kinship one can feel when we read the same text together.
While we are huge advocates of walking in one’s purpose, we also recognize that sometimes we do things “just because”.

There are infinite reasons that people decide to begin a read: a cool book cover/description, a favorite author or genre, but sometimes the reason is “JustCuz”, and that’s ok, too!

While all are welcome to our space, and we recognize that there are excellent writers in every demographic, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT OUR BOOK CHOICES WILL FOCUS ON THE WORKS OF BIPOC WRITERS. They are the most underrepresented in the Western literary arena, and the least likely to be published, so this is where we have chosen to focus our efforts.

When will we meet?

We will meet quarterly, most likely during a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, whichever is most accommodating for our club members.

Where will we meet?

Wherever we choose! Venues where food (brunch, favorably) is available tend to be best for book discussions, so if there are any local restaurants you want to try, please let us know. We are also open to meeting at libraries, and in the outdoors when the weather gets warmer!

Why should I join?

We welcome more cousins! We enjoy reading books, and the post-read discussions are even better, and we need your input and unique perspectives!

Also, if for no other reason, you’ll read more! Joining our group will guarantee that you read at least 4 books this year!

How do I join?
You can join the club via our group page on Meetup! This is the platform we will use to post our upcoming events.

While we will have a few social media accounts (FB/IG) that you can follow for updates!
