Photowalk: Shadows of Hampstead Heath

Details

This is our first group photowalk, so come along and shape how we do this!

Each time we meet we will have a philosophical thought to ponder, before we go out and create photographs. This is to experiment with different ways of looking at the world. The sun is out and the shadows are great in the late afternoon, so...

Theme: Shadows

Shadows get a bad rap. We talk about them as though they're sinister somehow, the evil shadows! Or inferior, who would ever want to live in someone else's shadow? But what if we've got it all wrong about these curious fragments of darkness? Philosopher Roy Sorenson, an avid shadow-lover, describes shadows as "holes in the light". The question is: what lies inside these holes?

Location: Hampstead Heath

Our ramble begins on a historic road with red brick buildings from the 1880s, past the Hampstead ponds, and into the peace of the woods.

Please bring:

  • Thoughts, quotations, readings, poems, haikus, that we can add to our collective storytelling about the beauty and wonder of shadows!

  • Camera / phone-camera, a notepad and pen.

  • Weather-proofing (Jumper, umbrella, walking shoes etc.)

4.00 - 4.30: Introductions and warm up exercise

4.30 - 5.30: Photowalk experiment in Hampstead Heath
