Not So Urban Athletics: Group Camping in Stokes State Forest
Details
*** You must submit your payment to move from the waitlist to a confirmed RSVP ***
Welcome to the wilderness (yes, New Jersey has one)—we’re headed to Stokes State Forest for a group camping trip that promises just the right balance of fresh air, questionable campfire cooking, and the kind of bonding that only occurs when at least one person forgets a flashlight.
By day, we’ll hike the Appalachian Trail like rugged outdoorspeople (or at least look the part), chase views from Sunrise Mountain, and cool off in Stony Lake if we’re feeling brave. Expect paddling, wandering, and confidently misreading trail maps. By night, we’ll gather around the fire for s’mores, stories, and a spirited debate about whether that noise in the woods is a raccoon… or something with a personal vendetta.
Come for the nature, stay for the chaos, and leave with at least one story you’ll have to heavily edit before telling at work.
Pack layers, bring snacks, and prepare to discover that “roughing it” is a flexible concept.
What does it cost and how do I pay?
$25.62 per person for the campsite fee. The cost is for TWO nights of camping. Payment is via Venmo.
Space is LIMITED so until I receive your payment your RSVP is not confirmed and your attendance is not guaranteed. Once I have confirmation of receipt of your payment I will move you to confirmed RSVP status.
But what do we eat?
To keep it simple, everyone is responsible for bringing what food and snacks they would like to eat and drink.
We will be cooking dinner Friday, breakfast and dinner Saturday, and breakfast Sunday. Meals will be semi-communal, meaning bring what you would like to eat for yourself but perhaps also enough to share with a few other people. Simple to cook but interesting items are best.
There is a carry in, carry out garbage policy in effect. There is also a no alcohol policy in the park.
What else do I need to know?
• If you are unsure what to pack, please ask.
• The campsites have modern toilets and showers. We are not auditioning for survivor here.
• By RSVPing for this event, you agree to the following waiver of liability https://bit.ly/3atj0C5

The campground is about a 1.5 hour drive from NYC and we'll need to carpool to the campground. When you RSVP, please indicate if need a ride. Or if you plan to drive, where you are coming from and how many passengers you can take. We'll then figure out our carpooling options, please be proactive and contact a driver directly rather than just saying where you need a ride from. Gas and tolls should be picked up by the passengers, also a cup of coffee for the driver is a nice gesture.
