Beyond the Storm of Anxiety, Fear & Worry
Friends Meeting House, 6 The Friars, Canterbury CT1 2AS, GBFrom Inner Struggle to Inner Stability
Fear and anxiety are experiences we would rather avoid — yet they arise again and again, often without invitation. Rather than seeing them as failures or obstacles, this half-day course invites us to meet fear and anxiety with curiosity, compassion, and wisdom.
Together we will explore the nature of fear and anxiety: how they arise, the mental stories that sustain them, and the deeply held assumptions about ourselves that keep them in place. Through guided reflection and practical inquiry, we will learn how to transform these states of mind so that they no longer limit or paralyse us, but instead become gateways to insight, resilience, and authentic inner confidence. In this half day course, you will also be learning to recognise the narrow and mistaken view of ourselves that underlies fear and anxiety. As we begin to loosen and let go of this crippling self-view, a new way of experiencing life naturally opens — one marked by greater ease, clarity, and trust.
The day will be led by experienced Buddhist teacher Chelvi, whose clear, compassionate teaching style draws on the Buddhist tradition while remaining grounded, accessible, and deeply relevant to modern life.
Whether you are seeking relief from anxiety, a deeper understanding of fear, or a more confident and open way of being, this course offers a supportive space to turn toward these challenges — and discover what lies beyond the storm.
This course is suitable for complete beginners to meditation as well as experienced practitioners, offering fresh perspectives and practical tools that can be integrated into everyday life.
Refreshments are provided.

The Healing Power of Meditation
Staplehurst, Tonbridge, GBCreating Stability, Confidence, and Happiness from Within
Meditation is a powerful method for healing the mind. When our mind is peaceful, we naturally experience happiness, and when our mind is disturbed, even the best external conditions cannot bring us happiness. In this half-day retreat, you will discover how meditation can help release painful emotions such as anxiety, insecurity, and stress, replacing them with a profound sense of calm, clarity, and confidence.
During the morning, you will be guided step by step to:- Learn how to meditate, with clear instructions that are easy to follow and suitable for everyone
- Understand how meditation works, and why changing the mind is the key to lasting peace
- Integrate meditation into daily life in a practical and realistic way, even with a busy schedule
- Identify and gradually reduce the inner causes of our problems, such as anxiety, insecurity, and emotional tension
- Use meditation as a reliable tool for improving relationships and responding more positively to life’s challenges
- Develop a stable inner peace that does not depend on external circumstances
The emphasis throughout the morning is on peace, relaxation, clarity, and practical experience, so that meditation becomes something you can genuinely rely on in everyday life.
The course will be guided by Senior Meditation Teacher James Baskerville, who has over 25 years of experience practising and teaching Kadampa Buddhist meditation. With clarity and warmth, he will present meditation techniques drawn from the Kadampa tradition that are suitable for both complete beginners and those with some experience.
This day is ideal for anyone who wishes to experience the healing power of meditation and begin to build a more peaceful, meaningful, and happy life from within.Information & Booking online via our website:
