Managed Connectors with Confluent Cloud & DevOps

Abstract:
Please join us for a workshop highlighting Confluent Cloud Managed Connectors! For this upcoming event, we will be covering Managed Connectors including operations with the Confluent ccloud CLI, Confluent Cloud REST API, and an advanced look at a declarative GitOps based approach to managed connector lifecycles. This session can help you navigate this topic if you’re just starting out or looking to answer advanced “Go To Production” questions.

Bio:
Rick is an integration architect at Confluent. For the last 20 years he has worked in the fintech/electronic trading space as a software developer building trading, back office, and credit card transaction processing systems. His particular interests lie in distributed computing platforms, build and deployment systems, software development, and the challenges of stitching together open source software.

--IMPORTANT--
This session will utilize Confluent Cloud, a fully managed event streaming platform powered by Apache Kafka. If you'd like to work along with the tutorial in the session, please sign up for Confluent Cloud at:

cnfl.io/MU-Try-Cloud

When signing up for a new account, use the promo code DEVOPS200 to receive an additional $200 free usage (details).

This workshop will walk through creating real Confluent Cloud resources including environments, clusters, topics and Kafka Connect clusters. To avoid unexpected charges please follow the provided guidance and destroy all resources created during the session.

This session will build a Connector from Confluent Cloud to Google Cloud Platform’s BigQuery SQL Service in order to show a fully managed Kafka to SQL data pipeline. To follow along fully will require a Google Cloud account with access to BigQuery (https://cloud.google.com/bigquery).

Prerequisites
The study hall will use the following local development tools:
Confluent Cloud CLI (http://cnfl.io/3t4c5qT)
curl will be used to deploy a connector using the command line and the new Confluent Cloud Connector REST API (install link: http://cnfl.io/3c9C5L8)
jq is useful for JSON processing on the command line (install link: http://cnfl.io/36cxJiA)
