Franz Kafka’s The Trial follows Josef K., a successful bank employee who is suddenly arrested for a crime that is never revealed to him. As he attempts to defend himself, he becomes increasingly trapped within a confusing and inaccessible legal system governed by rules he cannot understand. Darkly absurd and unsettling, the novel explores guilt, judgment, authority, alienation, and the struggle to find meaning in an irrational world.
