Ciju Joseph, Engineering Director, Deloitte Australia

Bio:
Ciju, with a background in integrations, leads the event streaming capability at Deloitte Australia. He has over 20 years of experience in designing and delivering large-scale integration and business process automation solutions. He has been working with Apache Kafka for the last 4+ years with a dedicated focus on event-driven solutions, helping a number of organisations transition towards modern event-driven architectures.

This talk explores the convergence of these two paradigms, delving into the principles of treating events with the same rigour and strategic importance as APIs. We will uncover how this approach enhances real-time data processing, scalability, and resilience. Additionally, we will explore the essential tools and processes for effectively managing events alongside APIs.

Bio:
Evelyn Bayes is a Team Lead, Customer Success Technical Architect at Confluent, the event-streaming pioneer. Previously she has worked as the APAC Support Engineering manager for Confluent and as an Operations Engineering with Instaclustr where she worked with a range of open-source big-data platforms including Apache Kafka, Apache Cassandra and Apache Spark.

Abstract:
We, as Software Engineers all work with data all day long. And we all have simple asks of that data...We want it to be there when we need it. We want it to be there quick. We want it to be consistent. Gosh darn it, we just want it to work!!! So we can focus on building our applications without worrying about all these edge cases.But we can’t always get what we want, at least not everything that we want. And just like life is about making tradeoffs, software is too. So let’s talk about one of those tradeoffs, and what you can do when you start relaxing constraints that you may have never needed anyway. Let’s talk about keyless Kafka.
