💡 Speaker:
Peter Nham, Staff Software Engineer, Zendesk
Bio:
I'm a Staff Engineer at Zendesk and over the last 3 years, I've been in the Kafka team where I've been a part of the big Kafka modernisation journey that's been going on. This has included migrating Kafka to Kubernetes, making Kafka resources self service and more recently migrating to KRaft. We're not only involved in maintaining and running Kafka but also with building out event streaming foundation apps at Zendesk. Other than Kafka, I'm also passionate about Scala and functional programming and Zendesk has been a great opportunity to combine my interests together.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing ultimate frisbee and discovering new board games.
Talk:
KRaft Migration Unplugged: Real-World Lessons from ZooKeeper to KRaft
Abstract:
At Zendesk, we embarked on the migration from ZooKeeper to KRaft shortly after its release. In this talk, I will share our journey through the migration process, discussing the lessons learned and the challenges we faced along the way. Hopefully this will help you with your own migrations and avoiding the obstacles that we encountered.

He also has extensive expertise in Information Security. Simon is a valuable asset to any team, bringing his skills and experience to deliver the best results for clients.
Talk:
Confluent Cloud Chargeback dashboards
Abstract:
Enterprise Platforms that run Kafka may find themselves needing to charge different business units for using this shared Kafka resource. They need to be careful however, as the wrong selection of charge back may lead to clients leaving the platform or reducing how they use the platform, leading to less value for all business units. Choosing the right model can lead to an abundance of reusable data products, creating huge value for the enterprise.
In this discussion, we will look at different charge back models and how their selection drives different behavior for end users. We illustrate this by looking at the dashboards and models developed for a large Australian Financial Institution using Confluent Cloud
