This group is a part of NAMI - Hawaii, The National Alliance on Mental Illness. For many years NAMI has been helping the families and other loved ones of those suffering with a mental illness. While NAMI also runs a Family-to Family educational group. this group is totally dedicated to peer-to-peer support. We are our own experts, in that it is only through direct experience that we can fully understand the issues facing our loved ones and ourselves. Here in Hawaii our mental health system is fragmented, and impossibly difficult to navigate without help. These meetings have truly helped to deal with the emotional trauma mental illness has caused in my family. I am truly grateful, and that is why I continue to come - to help myself and help others.
