Introduction to Zen Meditation

Details
Hello. I am a Buddhist priest and resident at Sokukoji Buddhist Temple Monastery in Battle Creek. I will be giving an introduction to the Zen practice of Shikantaza. This is a traditional style of meditation that is practiced sitting up with the eyes open. It is geared toward prioritizing our awareness over out thought patterns. We will meditate from 6:00pm until 6:45pm and then will break for 10 minutes. We then begin a 45 minute book study of Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. My teacher Sokuzan (Abbot of Sokukoji Buddhist Monastery in Battle Creek) studied under Trungpa Rinpoche for 15 years before meeting his Zen Master Kobun Chino Roshi. Sokuzan will join us virtually to answer questions at 7:30p. Once a month, he joins us in person to give a dharma talk.
I look forward to practicing with you all soon! Don't let the number of people signed up scare you off. Most of our members don't sign up but we regularly have 8-10 participants.
All events are offered freely but your donations allow us to rent space and provide supplies.
