The goal of the group is to learn and practise Kalaripayattu an ancient martial art form from India. The form uses yogic practices as well and is beneficial for overall fitness, well-being and focus.
As a performer and theatre practiioner I find kalaripayattu very helpful in my theatre practice as well and hope to meet creative minds, performers/dancers, fitness enthusiasts.
We will primarily focus on learning the kalaripayattu form and its performative uses.
This will be an introductory class, where participants will be introduced to the basic postures and kicks used in kalaripayattu martial art. Since the art is usually practised in a mud pit we will be using the beach to simulate the experience.
Please wear workout clothing. Carry water. Kalaripayattu is practised bare-foot.
Since this is an introductory class it is free, however feel free to tip the instructor as you feel.
