MANAGING A BIG DATA PROJECT - HOW TO MAKE IT ALL WORK WELL TOGETHER?
Many Big Data projects focus on implementing tech stacks or solutions, forgetting their main purpose, i.e. the business / product needs or applications they are to serve. Overall, Big data projects tend to differ a lot of typical IT Projects. They are usually big in scope and size, and too often they fail to bring business outcomes. The investments (usually very high for Big data projects) are often made mainly in the IT area, ignoring individual areas of business activities and do not generate much profit from a business point of view, causing a high risk of failure of the entire project. According to Gartner in 2019, the failure rate of big data projects was close to 85%. In this talk we will discuss how we manage Big data projects within Kambi focusing on the product development point of view and how we can potentialize our project outcomes by identifying our customers, building personas and developing a customer-focused big data project.

MAKING THE DATA LEAP - FROM ETL TO ELTS WITH A DATA LAKE, FROM AN ARCHITECTURAL VIEW
With an ever-changing land scape within the data world, it can be hard to know where to spend time and effort with the latest trends. Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, Data Lakehouses, Data Meshes, it can be overwhelming to decide where to spend time and effort, to get the most out of development. In this presentation, we will be discussing our journey at Kambi, and why we are migrating away from the traditional ETL flow, towards an ELT with data lake, looking at lift and shift vs native towards AWS, what does our future architecture looks like, and how to design towards data governance first.
Speaker: Andrew Hedengren
A Canadian Swede living in Stockholm since 2011, working with Kambi for 10 years in various rolls, starting as a Data Warehouse Engineer, and currently as the System Architect for the Data Platform. Andrew is passionate about data and data systems, and believe in empowering companies, teams, and people to use data strategically, and viewing data as a core resource, and not as a system by-product.
