CYCLING KYOTO - MIYAMA VILLAGE

It's a like bike trip to know what the Japanese landscape used to be.

The remote mountain village of Miyama is located 50km north of Kyoto-city, approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes away by car. Miyama-village is famous for its traditional thatched roof houses (kayabuki). The thatched roof houses were seen in various regions in the old days in Japan, especially areas experiencing heavy snowfall. However, in recent years, most of them have disappeared. We can see group of thatched roof houses in very limited area, such as Shirakawa-go (World heritage sites), as well as here in Miyama.

We drive to Miyama so, no need to pay travel cost for JR train + local bus (2,720 yen for return). Rental bikes will be carried from Kyoto to Miyama and return.

08:00 Meet at JR Yamazaki Station, (very close to Hankyu Oyamazaki station only 2-3 minutes on foot). The station located between Kyoto and Osaka, 15 minutes from Kyoto station and 25 minutes from Osaka station by JR train.
Drive to Miyama (by minivan carrying bicycles)
10:00 Arrive at Road station “Fureai Hiroba” in Miyama.
Preparation, Lecture about safety ride how to use bicycle gearshift, routes, etc… start cycling.
Lunch at traditional old thatched roof house (lunch cost is not included, order on the spot and pay on the spot, 1,000-1,500 yen.
15:30-16:00 reach the goal at Kayabuki-no-Sato, 1 hour free time.
16:30-17:00 Drive back to Kyoto

Riding Level: Recreational level (not so difficult)
Ups and downs: Mostly flat, not so much ups and downs

Important notices:
1.Minimum number of people for this meetup is 3 including organizer.
2. In case of rain, the tour will be cancelled.
3. If the weather forecast in Miyama region is more than 50% chance of rain at 05:00 pm on a previous day, the tour will be cancelled.
4. Please wear comfortable sport wear and shoes (sandals are not
acceptable)
5. We’ll provide bicycle helmets.
6. If you have many belongings, please bring your backpack.
7.All people must purchase Seven-eleven one day leisure insurance.

日本の原風景が色濃く残ると言われる京都美山へのサイクリングツアーを企画しております。8時、京都と大阪の間、JR山崎駅集合、車で道の駅美山ふれあい広場まで行き、そこを起点に約35～40 kmのサイクリングを楽しみます。途中茅葺民家で昼食(費用は別）、ゴールは茅葺の里となります。アップダウンは少な目でレベル的には初級上～中級下かと思います。

レンタサイクル＆ヘルメット2,000円、自転車運搬費往復1,000円(自転車は車に積載して持っていきます）、保険300円の合計3,300円を予定しております。一般の公共交通機関を利用してもJR+バスで京都駅から美山往復3,000円近くかかりますので、お得かと思います。

現地集合も可能です。問合せください。

雨の中のサイクリングは全く楽しくないので、前日17時の時点で京都南丹市の天気予報で降水確率50%以上の場合は中止にします。

自転車は上の記している5台を予定しております。身長150 cmからが2台、155 cmからが1台、160 cmからが2台です。タイヤサイズは全て同じなので身長の大きい人が小さいサイズに乗る分は全く問題なですが、その逆は難しいと思います。
