Vector Search, Lucene powered full-text search, and the developer data platform will all be topics as we talk about MongoDB and its role in modern development. Whether you are long time user of MongoDB or new to non-traditional DB’s, this talk will be sure to provide you with new information. Some key topics that will be discussed:
- What is a document style DB and why is it useful
- Features that set MongoDB apart (from RDBMS and other NoSQL)
- MongoDB Atlas - Cloud based DBaaS that runs on all major public clouds
- Search capabilities including Vector search and full-text search powered by Lucene
Will include code examples showing how to leverage MongoDB using Java and Spring-Data
About Josh Smith
Josh is a life-long KC resident who spent 20+ years working in development roles across a number of organizations in the KC area. Spending time with organization like DST, Adknowledge, Trevi-Pay (MSTS), USDA, Argus, CRL, and VinSolutions working in individual contributor roles, development leadership, and architecture leadership roles. Background is primarily in Java and back-end systems with a focus on scale and stability, but has also worked with Ruby, PHP, Python, C#/.Net and Javascript. Currently Josh works as a Senior Solution Architect for MongoDB in a pre-sales capacity. Josh first used MongoDB back in 2011 when working at Adknowledge, and has used it in various capacities ever since.
