Film of the month:
[?]* (Directed by James Ivory, 1986; 1h 55m; FSK: ab 12)
Set in the Edwardian era, young Lucy Honeychurch travels to Florence accompanied by an older cousin as her chaperone. Back in England, Lucy finds herself transformed by her encounters and experiences in Italy. Based on the novel published in 1908 by E.M. Forster. Won three Academy Awards, four BAFTAs and many other accolades. Starring Helena Bonham-Carter, Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Julian Sands and Daniel Day-Lewis. (Having seen Daniel Day-Lewis in his breakthrough role as a streetwise young thug in [?]* last month, there could not be a greater contrast to his equally breakthrough role as Lucy’s snobby, upper-class suitor.)
“This is a complete movie, full of life, love and hope.”
– Dan Jardine, Apollo Guide
“It is an intellectual film, but intellectual about emotions: It encourages us to think about how we feel, instead of simply acting on our feelings.”
– Roger Ebert, RogerEbert[dot]com
“This is also a fascinating opportunity to see some great actors at a pivotal stage in their careers.”
– Jenny Kermode, Eye For Film
"Daniel Day-Lewis steals all of his scenes."
– Emanuel Levy, EmanuelLevy.Com
Shown in English with English subtitles. Admission is free.
