Walk: Freedom Park & Memorial Tower at George Bush Park

This ~6-mile round-trip trek starting at Creech Elementary takes us into George Bush Park within the Barker Reservoir, to our final destination being Freedom Park, home to the Memorial Tower.

The trail is easygoing—flat and paved—with parts edging Buffalo Bayou, giving us a front-row seat to the natural beauty of the water. We’ll cross a bridge, wander through a wooded section, and soak in the raw, untamed nature of this place.

The Memorial Tower is our final stop—a tribute to the U.S. Armed Forces, and especially to those lost on 9/11. The pentagonal base of the tower represents the five military branches, with five monoliths standing guard along the path. Inside, you’ll find pieces of history from all three 9/11 crash sites.

It’s the perfect blend of nature, history, and reflection.
