Details

This is a short notice 6 mile paddle out and back College Creek to the James River for paddlers with a reasonable amount of experience. If you are totally new, 6 miles might be too long and there is a slighty tricky bridge with a narrow under the Parkway with high currents. Just FYI: (Young) people have drowned in this area in riptides trying to cross/wade/swim from the Parkway beach to the other side (not in kayaks). The current is not an issue if you have some kayaking experience navigating them. Otherwise you can stay in College Creek and wait for us to return (for about half an hour) or go back on your own.

We'll meet at College Creek around 9.30 am and launch at 10. Launch is from the grass into the creek (no ramp, unless they built one since I last was there). We should be back around 1 pm.

Low tide is 11.14 am (at Scotland Ferry) so we'll mostly paddle with the tide. A mild NE breeze is predicted (6 mph, which may be more on the water).

Bring your kayak and paddle and all your safety gear (life vest mandatory), pump, float, and enough water to stay hydrated, a snack and sun protection.

Post below if you have any questions.
