What we’re about
Meet other local Paddlers, Hikers and outdoor adventurers to talk about local rivers, creeks, and lakes and to plan paddling trips. Boaters of all levels and type are welcome!
Las Cruces Paddling Group provides this site as a public service. With any outdoor adventure, "survival" is hardly enough. You should always be over-prepared for what you expect to encounter. This means making correct and informed decisions on your clothing and gear, among other things, and an accurate assessment of your skills. Since situations always change, it is your personal responsibility to ensure that you are safe, no matter what may have been suggested from the information provided here. You, and you alone, are responsible for your safety and preparedness. You are participating at your own risk.

- Tentative Big Bend PaddleGrassy Banks Campground Site 15, TX, TX
Trip contingent on a 250 CFM plus flow rate and at least one additional high clearance vehicle for the shuttle to Talley. Thursday drive in, paddle Colorado Canyon, camp at Grassy Banks campground. Friday back paddle Santa Elena if flow rates is low enough for that, or go with the flow and portage the rock slide if needed, camp along Old Maverick Road. Saturday hike and sight seeing, camp At Solis. Sunday paddle Mariscal Canyon from Talley to Solis and either head home or head over to Chisos Basin to camp. Class 1-2 runs, ok for a novice as long as you have some experience with moving water and positive control of your boat.
Come for all or part. I'll fill in the blanks as we get closer. Flow rates have been all over the place but we still have 20 days to see if it trends to something favorable. If it doesn't work out for October 12, we will try for a three-day trip in November on Veterans Day weekend. We will need day use permit, camping permit, and back country river permit from Big Bend Ranch State Park and for Big Bend National Park. Plan to bring all the supplies you might need for the four days we are there. Click Attend or chime in the comments with questions or interests.
