Did you know? Sea Kayaking paddling with a Traditional Greenland Paddle is a specialist activity...

Sea kayaking originated in the Arctic as a means of travel and hunting for food centuries ago. But things evolved a lot over the last decades.

A sea kayak must be able to travel distances at a reasonable speed and also be maneuverable for a spot of rock-hopping inland or for dealing with rough waters.

In this course we are going to be working with premium quality polyethylene and/or composite British and German kayaks and paddle with handcrafted wooden Traditional Greenland paddles.

We are going to introduce a variety of paddle strokes and maneuvers specific to sea kayaking, and based on interest and abilities, can go into more advance techniques like safety and rescue.

Our teaching philosophy is “challenged by choice” so you can opt-out of some of the exercises and scenarios we play.

This course requires a moderate fitness level and the capacity to bend (body flexibility). Our sit-inside the cockpit sea kayaks can accommodate paddlers up to 250 lbs.

This is a 3-hour long course and most of it will be spent on the water.

By the end of this clinic, you will become a more confident kayaker and will feel more comfortable having the skills to play in a sea kayak.

This class will have a 6:1 student to instructor ratio so you will receive very personal instruction and feedback.

A minimum 3 students are necessary to run the class.

Registration fee: $150 per person, prepaid via PayPal or Venmo using phone number 832 686 3231.

Registration includes instruction, event insurance and rental of a completely equipped kayak (sit-inside touring kayak, lightweight wooden traditional Greenland paddle, adjustable lifejacket, kayak skirt, bilge pump, paddle float, dry bag) and use of group gear (tow rope, rescue sling, VHS radio, first aid kit, flares, and signalizing devices).

To reserve your spot, please RSVP “Yes” here then submit your Venmo or PayPal payment. A RSVP “Yes” on Meetup alone does not register you for the course but merely expresses your interest in it. This is a small capacity clinic and some register without being Meetup members, so numbers shown may not add up, and they may change. The event is cross-posted on several groups and platforms.
