Virtual Book Club: The Uninhabitable Earth
Details
For our next virtual book club, we return to the harrowing subject of climate change and its frightening effects on our planet. Author David Wallace-Wells argues persuasively that we need to start curbing carbon emissions yesterday–and that was in 2019.
Here’s a link to the book, which is also available as an audiobook.
This book received a high number of votes when we had a survey last year on which books to read in what order. Soon we will add some new titles that have been recommended and hold a new survey to see which suggested books get the most votes.
Although given the opportunity, I did not click on "Generate Description with AI" as I created this Meetup event! Why? Because AI uses so much energy as you've no doubt heard! So here's an in-my-own-words description of the book: David Wallace-Wells writes for the New York Times and had a recent opinion piece entitled "The World is Now Unavoidably Toxic." Alternate title: "You Are Contaminated." If you haven't yet read enough frightening information about how dire the situation is, by all means go read that in addition to the book!
Those who sign up here on Meetup will receive the Zoom link for this virtual discussion.
