Tell Congress to Protect the Boundary Waters Wilderness from Toxic Mining!
Details
At the end of our Sierra Club general meeting on Jan 27, we talked about Organizing to Protect and Defend America's Public Lands as part of monthly actions that we can each do before our next meeting on Feb 26..
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota is one of our nation’s most popular wilderness areas. In 2023 after years of organizing, the Interior Department finalized a 20-year mining ban for its surrounding watershed to safeguard clean water, wildlife habitat, wilderness values, cultural resources, and recreation opportunities. But now, the Trump Administration and its allies in Congress are attempting to overturn these protections and allow toxic copper sulfide ore mining to pollute these beloved public lands and waters.
Tell your members of Congress to vote NO on H.J.Res.140.
TAKE ACTION: As soon as Tuesday, February 10, the U.S. Senate is set to vote to erase protections for the watershed of the Boundary Waters wilderness in northern Minnesota. Thank you for helping with this action and please do so as soon as possible.
We look forward to seeing you at our next general meeting on Feb 26. Be sure to RSVP here - https://www.meetup.com/kc-metro-sierra-club/events/313179284/?eventOrigin=group_events_list
