Protect the Boundary Waters
Details
We welcome Kansas City Metro (KS & MO) Sierra Club members and their friends to join us at our monthly general meeting. The topic will be protecting the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) in northern Minnesota from copper and nickel mining.
The speaker will be Kanza Network Vice Chair Fred Hopkins, who will provide a presentation on the recent and recurring attempts by a mining company to obtain leases for copper and nickel mining on federal land in the same watershed as the BWCA in northern Minnesota. Fred has paddled into the BWCA six times over the past four decades and will share details and slides of this picturesque area. Fred is also passionate about this Sierra Club national campaign, and it would be great to learn more from him about the campaign and protecting the BWCA.
