About us
The Kansas City .NET Developers User Group (KCDNUG) is a community for developers working with the Microsoft .NET ecosystem who want to learn, share knowledge, and connect with other professionals building real-world software. Whether your focus is back-end services, desktop applications, web platforms, or mobile apps, KCDNUG is a place to grow your skills alongside like-minded developers.
Our monthly meetings feature speakers from Kansas City and the surrounding region who share practical insights on .NET, software architecture, tooling, and related technologies. Meetings are typically held on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM and are open to developers of all experience levels.
KCDNUG is organized by Duane Newman and Brent Stewart of Alien Arc Technologies. Alien Arc is a custom software development consultancy with experience across a wide range of industries, delivering solutions from back-end systems to desktop, web, and mobile applications. We’re passionate about helping teams turn ideas into production-ready software and navigate technical challenges along the way.
Our current regular meeting space is generously provided by Quest Analytics, located off Antioch & I-435 in Corporate Woods.

Teaching LLMs New Tricks: Build Your Own MCP Skills - Brent Stewart
Quest Analytics, LLC, 9225 Indian Creek Pkwy Ste 200, Overland Park, KS, USTeaching LLMs New Tricks: Build Your Own MCP Skills
Large language models are powerful, but out of the box they only know what they’ve been trained on. What if you could give an LLM new skills, access to external systems, or specialized domain knowledge, all while retaining control over the logic? That’s where Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers come in. MCP servers let you expose functionality to an LLM, enabling it to perform tasks it couldn’t do natively.Come join us as we explore how to design and build a custom MCP server and integrate it with an LLM. You’ll see how MCP servers can augment AI capabilities, provide structured access to data and tools, and enable developers to safely expand the scope of what LLMs can do. We’ll also discuss best practices for building reusable skills and integrating MCP servers in various scenarios.
