About the Event
Join us at Woodridge Primitive Park for a 1 night backpacking trip on the George Lathum Trail. This is a 4 mile loop trail. We will meet Saturday afternoon and backpack to a designated backpacking site on the trail, then complete the loop and hike out Sunday morning. We will meet at the trailhead at the GPS coordinates shown above the map on this page.
Although this is a beginner level trip, you will need to bring your own backpacking gear to participate in the outing. We will not be loaning gear. Please use this link as a guide for what you should bring. Gear Packing List
If you have questions or concerns about your gear or your ability to complete this overnight trip, please leave them in the comment section below.
Note: In case of an emergency, a paper medical form is required by each backpacker to be able to attend. The link to this form is below. You can email your completed medical form to drjbg230c@gmail.com. If you do not email the form, you will either need to print it out yourself and bring the paper copy with you or it will need to be completed at the trailhead. We will have blank forms for you to complete if that is the case. If you have been on another Sierra Club backpacking trip in the past, you can reuse the same form if it is still up to date.
We will be using one of the designated campsites along the trail. I'll come early to find a site and let everyone know which site(s) we will using before we start out.
The sites along the trail work best with a smaller group, so this trip has a smaller group size. We will try and split the hike into 2 miles each day, but the actual mileage for each day will be dependent on the specific location of the available campsite.
No pets are allowed on this trip.
Several of the dedicated sites have a fire ring. I'll make finding a site with a fire ring a priority. Campfires are allowed in the fire ring, so we will make one if there is enough wood in the area.
Trip Requirements
Prepare for 1 dinner and 1 breakfast on the trail. Please make sure to bring enough water for these meals and for drinking along the trail and at camp. There is no water source along the trail. 3 liters of water should be adequate, but you should know your hydration needs to plan accordingly. Make sure to have everything ready to go when you arrive.
Make sure to wear hiking boots or trail shoes. Hiking sandals or flip flops are not allowed.
Watch the weather forecast before the trip for planning the appropriate gear and clothing to pack. Rain gear is always appropriate. I will post updates about the weather as the date gets closer.
During the check-in process, all participants must sign this Standard Participant Agreement. This is a requirement of participating in this outing.
Reminder: A completed medical form is required to participate in this outing as noted above. The form will be kept confidential by one of the designated leaders during the trip and will be destroyed or can be returned to you at the completion of the outing.
Each backpacker should bring their own personal 1st aid kit.
