You are warmly invited to join the International Relations Council next Wednesday, March 13, to learn more about this subject with an all-star panel as we present “Sports & Cross-Cultural Understanding” at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center.
This star-studded panel includes one of the MLS veterans who the league asked to be a facilitator for Playing as One, a local expert on baseball as a tool for community integration, and an Executive Fellow with KC2026, the organization putting the preparations in place for our hosting of the World Cup.

About The Panelists
Adam Lewis comes to Kansas City with vast experience using soccer as a tool for community integration in the Pacific Northwest, and brings that experience into his role with KC2026 as the Executive Fellow on Human Rights and Sustainability.
Dr. Diego Gutierrez is a former professional soccer player, winning honors such as the 2007 MLS Humanitarian Of The Year. He now works as a professor of Sport Management at Rockhurst University, and in February 2024 worked as a facilitator for Major League Soccer’s new Inter-Cultural Awareness Training, Playing As One.
Gene Chavez, Ed. D. is an expert on the history of Mexican-American baseball and fast pitch softball in Kansas City. His work has been exhibited as part of a traveling Smithsonian SITES Exhibition called Pleibol! In the Barrios and the Big Leagues, at the Kansas City Museum, and more.
